Rahul Gandhi addressed a public rally at Amreli, Gujarat on 26 April 2014. Tearing through the web of lies spun by the BJP, Rahul Gandhi said that Narendra Modi's worship of Sardar Patel and his promises of women empowerment are mere gimmicks to fool people during the elections.
"They do not know, nor do they read about Sardar Patel and his thoughts. Modi Ji has given his entire life to RSS. Let me tell him Sardar Patel's views on RSS. Sardar Patel viewed RSS as a poisonous organization that will destroy the idea of India," he said.
"Mr Modi has spent his entire life acting against the views and thoughts of Sardar Patel. Now, with the elections approaching, he wants to build a statue of him...Former RSS Chief Golwalkar firmly believed that giving voting rights to women was a big mistake. He said it will be a big loss for India. Modi Ji has spent his entire life in this organization. He used state police machinery to spy on a woman. And then they talk of women empowerment," he said at a massive rally in Amreli.
Dismissing BJP's development claims, Rahul Gandhi said that the farmers, labourers, SC/ST/OBC, minorities and the weaker sections continue to languish in Gujarat.
"BJP leaders can't sleep at night, unless they tell 5-6 lies in a day. He claims he made Gujarat. He would like us to believe that for 60 years the people of Gujarat did nothing. They sat idle and the state was stagnant. Then Modi Ji came to power, the state was transformed and it was shining. The sweat and blood of the people of Gujarat means nothing to them," Rahul Gandhi said.
He said Mr. Modi spoke about milk revolution as if women had no role to play in it. "He alone milked lakhs of cows in Gujarat. Now he wants the country to make him the chowkidaar and give him the keys of the country. You all are well aware, what kind of chowkidaari he has done here," Rahul Gandhi said.
He added that the so-called Gujarat model of development is not only lopsided but is dangerous for the country for it led to welfare and progress of only few industrialist friends of Gujarat government.
"Take the resources, money, land and power of the poor and give it to a few industrialist friends -- this is their model. And then market this model using the money from these industrialists during the elections. Get on the stage and say lies after lies. The Congress Party model is different. We give to the people their due. Imagine, the amount of money we spent on MNREGA, they gave more than that to one industrialist," he said.
Building on the rights-based paradigm that the Congress Party has been working on for the last decade, Rahul Gandhi told the people that they will now be given the right to shelter, health and free medicine and pension.
