A speedy, dense tutorial for intermediate/advanced drawing of human buttocks, for illustration, comics, fine art, etc. I say "butt," "ass," and "shit" in this video, so make sure you've got the volume cranked to 11 if you're in polite company. Part 1 covers form-gesture and anatomy, and Part 2 covers clothing and butt-shape variety.
STILL IMAGES
I talk fast because I am an impatient person, so be handy with that pause button. I've uploaded high-resolution scans of all the sketches to flickr, as a supplemental reference. As with the video, I've licensed these under Creative Commons, so go ahead and share them:

VIDEO SERIES
Daxplains is a how-to series where I, Dax, illustrate an illustration topic, whether I actually know shit about it or not, in a time shorter than my own attention span. If this free video was useful to you, I need Patreon patrons for my eisner-nominated graphic novel, Failing Sky:

DISCLAIMER
My locations for muscle origin/insertions are from Grey's Anatomy. Everything else in this video I made up, so don't use it for your doctoral thesis. This is not an exhaustive survey of the human ass, anatomically nor in situ — if you have further questions about how to draw a butt, go read a book. If you have strong opinions about how to draw butts that differ from those I've represented, I invite you to engage me in a public debate at @failingskyTMI.
MY CRED
I am a puppeteer, illustrator and musician. I hold a BFA in Drawing/Painting from the California College of Arts & Crafts, and an MFA in Performance from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. At one time, I was a Course Director of academic drawing at Ex'pression College of Digital Arts, but I gave all that up to live on a shelf above a puppet workshop.
