Generally speaking, there are three types of problems to be solved by management: structured, send-structured, and unstructured. The boundaries between them, however, are not as clear cut as they sound• Sometimes the classification is also dependent on the existence of methods for solving the problems• For instance, before the advent of FIGURE-1 linear programming, profit maximization or cost minimization was considered as a semi-structured problem; nowadays, with the availability of simplex method, the problem is generally reduced to a structured problem.
