Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) is an international satellite mission to provide worldwide observations of rain and snow.
The GPM Core Observatory satellite, provided by NASA and JAXA, launched on Feb. 27, 2014 and acts as a reference standard to unify precipitation measurements from a network of 12 satellites.
The result is a seamless map - Integrated Multi-satellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG). This video shows IMERG from April through September 2014, with data updated every half hour.
