The town of Flint, Michigan was once a thriving hub of industry. Located 70 miles from Detroit, the town once housed General Motors’ largest factory plant; jobs were plentiful and the area was a strong working class town. That identity has all but faded. Now, 41.6% of Flint residents live below the poverty line with a median income of $24,000, even worse, they are locked in the worst water crisis in American history. Budget mismanagement and corruption caused the city to source the Flint River as the city’s main water source, and area residents are facing drastic health risks from the chemically imbalanced water. Born and raised in Flint, Aftermath emcee Jon Connor has seen enough. Using his platform to shed light on this disastrous water shortage, Connor is standing up for the town that made him who he is.
