A real life "Captain America" popped a surprise marriage proposal to his girlfriend at Comic-Con 2011. Here is the official live video of Army Captain Brandon McAnally proposing to his girlfriend Erin Redshaw live on the Marvel Comics "Avengers" stage. The couple wore "Captain America" themed costumes Redshaw handcrafted herself.
This surprise was made possible by many people, including legendary Comic Book Author Stan Lee. First, Erin Redshaw was told they were going to be interviewed about her boyfriend being a real life military Captain and then meet Stan lee. The was easy for Redshaw to believe as they were also offered an invite by Lani Hay, CEO and President of Lanmark Technology, Inc to the "Captain America Military Salute".
Marvel Comics own Jesse Falcon was in on the secret and arranged a time for the couple to to be "interviewed" live on the Marvel "Avengers" stage.
The event was hosted by SyFy Channel actress Diana Terranova, a friend of the couple. Onstage Terranova kept up the charade by asking simple, fun questions. We learned that Captain McAnally has served in both Afghanistan and Africa and is currently stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado. Erin Redshaw recently moved across the country to be with McAnally, after graduating college for fashion design.
Terranova then asked McAnally, "Would you like to keep her around?" and he responded with, "For the rest of my life." Redshaw was awestruck when her boyfriend removed his Captain America shield and told her his love for her was greater than all the stars in the sky. Then, on bended knee, he asked her to marry him. Thousands of Comic-Con 2011 attendees roared and cheered with approval. Among them were many of their cosplay friends who know them by their cosplay names of "Clyde Max and Claire Max".
The congratulations followed them across downtown San Diego as the couple along with host Diana Terranova, traveled to the LMK Music Lodge. There the couple was greeted by Lanmark CEO and President Lani Hay and given gifts including "Captain America" for XBOX 360, a camera and clothing from Kasino.
On they went to Marvel's Monstergeddon to meet one of the greatest comic icons of all time, Stan Lee. Stan Lee offered his congratulations to the couple and they in turn offered to name their first born son "Stan the Man" McAnally.
It was an amazing day.
This was produced for My Geek Universe by Diana Terranova. Camera and additional production by Collier Landry. Filmed live at Comic-Con 2011, LMK Music Lodge and Marvel Monstergeddon.
