This game is a student project developed by Basaltic studios and based off Chinese mythology... apparently. I didn't read anything or check anything except the very basic information for this game before playing it to try and maintain as fresh a playthrough as possible.
First things first, the English translation was just released one day before I played this. The cutscene apparently wasn't quite affected by this and was still in Chinese. so I guess this game was about Chinese mythology but as far as I could tell I was just a psychopath with a sword walking around and cutting things up.
The gameplay is an incredibly simple Dynasty Warriors style beat'em up with only two separate attack buttons, few combos, and special attacks geared towards the 1, 2, and 3 buttons on the keyboard. There's very little reason to do anything but spam either light or heavy attack (your choice) and use your energy-consuming special attacks when you're bored.
The game developers did a very naughty thing with the tutorial and make it only appear on the screen for like half a second. I didn't realize until the very end of the game that you could press F to dodge around. I had to die twice to the boss before randomly hitting the F key and realizing that. It's kind of an essential part of the game, which I reached the final boss without for some reason.
For a student project it's not a bad first attempt and for a free game there's a lot worse you could spend your time on. Next time though devs, I may be a male but I'm still a gamer and part-critic. Next time, work in more combos BEFORE you add in jiggle physics to certain areas of our female protagonist's body. Deal?
