There have been large protests across the United States against the possibility of a U-S-led attack on Syria. A very large protest was held in New York City. Caleb Maupin reports.
The recent announcement from the Obama administration, that Washington intends to take military action against Syria has caused massive outcry throughout the U-S. Polls have shown that the public is overwhelmingly opposed to such an action. Hundreds gathered in Times Square to voice their opposition to any U.S. attack on Syria. Joe Lasalle, a community organizer from the Bronx, explained why he came to the protest.
Many of the protesters say that they do not believe the Obama administrations allegation that Assad used chemical weapons. Mark Ludas, a college student who works with the United National Anti-War Committee, explained why he doesn't believe what is being said.
The protest included many different people, from many different sectors of U-S society.
Many Syrian-Americans from around the country came to join the protest. Sanna from Syrian American Forum explained why she and so many other Syrian Americans are opposed to the war.
Diop Olugbala From the Black is Back coalition, explained why he supports the Assad government against the United States.
The protesters continued to circle Times Square, loudly chanting, making clear they will oppose and resist any U.S. intervention in Syria. The world is still waiting to see what will happen next, as Obama continues to talk of military action.
