Kevin Newman is stepping down as anchor of Global Television's national newscast, the latest development in a tumultuous period for beleaguered media giant Canwest. Newman said he's leaving the suppertime newscast after one of its most successful seasons — averaging more than one million viewers per night — because "I wanted my successor to inherit Global National when it was in a position of strength."
