http://odinwatch.com/ This is my guide walkthrough for the final boss fight of Lost City of Amdampor. Diabolos has 2 abilities your tank should stun; Nightmare (AoE sleep) and Ultimate Terror (aoe damage attack). Ultimate Terror can be avoided by having range run to the far edges of the map and the tank just staying put (end doesnt hurt the area directly around Diabolos) but it's best to just stun it.
Diabolos will summon a bunch of doors at the start of the fight. After awhile he will run to the center of the room and start casting a big AOE. The AoE will add a stack of debuffs that makes your characters take more damage. It's very obvious because the area will have dark lightning all over the place while he is casting and he'll ignore the tank.
We originally thought we needed to hide behind the doors. We were wrong. At the very start when the doors spawn, each has a color but it only lasts about 20 seconds. If you open the color coded matching doors, a portal will appear and suck your party in and move them to the other matching door after you have opened the 2nd door.
What we did was have a range DPS open one door at the start of Diabolos casting his big unblockable spell and then open the matching door when Diabolos was at half his charging; we decided the tank should do this, so I ended up doing it. If you open the last door too soon or too slow, Diabolos will hit you with the AoE. It's best to start the opening when Diabolos is at half his cast bar.
The doors you use will vanish and not be available again.
Just keep doing this and you'll win.
If thats too complex I have a video I'm editing that shows the fight.
PS: He dropped Coke. I'm not sure if that's intentional. Seems a tad like a joke.
Diabolos (ディアボãƒã‚¹, Diaborosu), also known as Diablos, is a recurring creature in the series that has most often appeared as a summoned monster. He first appeared in Final Fantasy VIII and his trademark ability is Dark Messenger, which usually deals fractional damage based on the target's HP. Even though his nature and backstory change, Diabolos's appearance throughout the series is consistent.
Diablos first appeared in Final Fantasy VIII as an optional boss who becomes a Guardian Force upon defeat. He can be obtained when the party receives the Magical Lamp from Headmaster Cid.
Diabolos appears in Final Fantasy XI as one of the five terrestrial avatars, alongside Carbuncle, Fenrir, Phoenix, and Bahamut.
