Beltronics STi Magnum Radar Detector Review by Radar Roy
If you’re considering purchasing a radar detector and live or frequently drive in the Virginia and Washington DC area, or if you’re a commercial truck driver, you will want to make sure that the detector you select is stealth to the Spectre radar detector detector.
The Spectre is a device used by police that can detect the radio frequency leakage from most radar detectors, with the exception of four, the Escort REDLiNE, the Beltronics STi Magnum, the Bel STiR Plus and the Passport 9500ci.
Now even though the Bel STi Magnum is stealth and is rated as a 4-star radar detector, I feel that you have a better option with the Escort REDLiNE and here is why.
First off Escort and Beltronics are the same company and many of their radar detectors share the same features, but this is not the case with the REDLiNE and STi Magnum.
And the main feature you would be missing out with the Magnum is not being able to segment Ka Band.
By segmenting Ka band you’re blocking out the areas of that band that are not used by police, enabling your detector to scan faster and more efficiently.
And by enabling this feature with the REDLiNE you can increase it’s performance by as much as 15%.
Now to my left a banner just appeared which you can click on right now will take you to my video review of the REDLiNE where you can learn get more information about that detector.
However before you do click on that banner I have one question, do you really need a detector that is stealth to the Spectre RDD?
Because if you don’t drive in VA or drive a commercial truck, the use of a radar detector is legal everywhere else in the US and by choosing the REDLiNE or STi Magnum you maybe making the wrong choice and here is why.
I have rated both the REDLiNE and STi are rated as highway detectors, meaning that they excel on the open road, but lack the advanced filtering and photo enforcement options found in the Max2.
And because of this the Max2 will filter out more of those annoying false alerts then the STi Magnum and the Max2 is rated as being both a highway and city detector.
And a bonus is that Max2 also includes an internal Bluetooth chip set enabling it to share real time threats and police spotted alerts with other Escort Live users.
