Sheriff's Deputy Nicholas Palmier has been cleared of wrongdoing in the September 16th fatal shooting of Jesse Beshaw. The state ruled that Palmier's actions were justified as self defense given the particular circumstances that led to the shooting - even though Jesse was unarmed. The Attorney General's Office released a statement:
"Under the facts as revealed by the investigation, the Attorney General’s Office has concluded that Franklin County Deputy Sheriff Nicholas Palmier was reasonable in his belief that he was in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury when he fired at Jesse Beshaw".
Police were trying to arrest Jesse who was wanted on a warrant for various charges. When police confronted Jesse he threatened to pull out a gun and shoot at them. Moments later deputy Palmier discharges eight shots at Jesse, killing him.
